I was in a session with my client. She was lost. There were so many options in front of her, and this, in some way, was overwhelming. "What do I do now?" she asked. She had asked for advice from everyone around her, and of course, from me as well.
On one hand, imagining possible scenarios and picturing yourself in those scenarios can be exciting, but on the other hand, the question that sparks doubts and fears is:
“Cosa mi renderà davvero felice?”
This question is at the heart of every important decision, but the answer is never simple.
Do you remember the first Harry Potter movie?
One night, Harry finds himself in a hidden room in the castle, inside which there is a magical mirror. This mirror doesn't simply reflect the image of the person looking into it, but shows their deepest, most hidden desire. Harry sees himself surrounded by his parents, an image that represents his greatest wish. He runs to his best friend Ron to show him this magic, thinking that he will see the same scene. But Ron, instead, sees himself reflected as the most awarded boy, surrounded by sports and academic achievements. The mirror isn't just a physical reflection; it's a window into the most intimate and often unexplored desire of each of us.
Imagine if you had a mirror like that. What would you see? And, more importantly, what do you see today in your choices, your priorities, your dreams? Sometimes, in the frenzy of the countless options life offers, we forget to look within, to listen to what our heart truly desires.
Sometimes, it's so difficult or tangled within us that we seek external help. Sometimes we do this even unconsciously. A friend of mine, a psychologist, once told me that whenever someone discovered his profession, they would start asking him questions like: "But what kind of person do you think I am?" "Uh, what did you say your name is?" Or we look for answers through psychological tests and read the results as if they were an oracle: we want to understand who we are, but the deepest answer often doesn't come from the outside.
There’s an invitation going around online to write to the virtual assistant about our wildest dreams, asking it to give us a description of a typical day if those dreams were to come true. Of course, I decided to try this experiment myself. I didn’t shed rivers of tears like the latest influencer promised, but it was still an interesting exercise for at least three reasons:
I took a break from my daily to-do list to reflect on where I would like the future to take me.
Visualization turned out to be a powerful tool, especially for motivation.
After many years, moves, children, job changes, my biggest desire is still the same. It has changed in form, language, and name, but the essence is the same.
Returning to my client, my invitation was to return to her heart, to what was truly a priority for her.
In the chaos of options, we often forget to stop and really reflect on what we want. Only when we take the time to do so, without giving in to the fear of the future, can we make sense of our choices.
The first step for change is to find clarity within yourself.
Because, as Harry tells us with his mirror, your deepest desire is always there, reflecting your truth. And even though the path may seem full of uncertainties, it is only when you listen to this desire that you can choose with awareness and courage.
P.S. Do you know what my dream was 15 years ago? A training and meditation center in the middle of Montana.
Today, I know that dream, although it has changed, is still an important part of what I want to achieve in life. What would your mirror reflect?
